Day 12 – 14 July – Ulan Bator Maintenance Day

Today we tried our luck at the gas station to get some diesel. Our guide negotiated and we were allowed to fill up the trucks. 47l for me which cost about  840,000 tugrik of NZD$84 approx. Next stop was a garage to wash the cars down and tend to our ailments. Mine was the front number plate that I lost in the river and then ran over and repairing the rear mudflap which had come off. The entire wash and repair operation cost us equiv NZD$30 – Cheap as! We then searched the auto market for a fuel part for the landcruiser. It is really just a street where all the car parts retailers are. They have so many accessories for your car – particularly Toyota Landcruisers  as these seem to be the car of choice here.
Lunch was Mongolian BBQ at ironically, an American foodchain store. There were vodka shots all round as is proving the norm. Worry is, Georgia can down hers quicker than I can. Dinner was at an irish pub which had no Guiness – Murray was not impressed! We leave tomorow for the next border town. No cameras allowed at this one. The Russians are apparently quite surly but usually soften by the time you leave.

Forgot my camera today but a couple of shots attached from the local supermarket.
