Day 9 Gobi Desert Taniwhas

Georgia-

We packed our bags for another trip on the road, Starting with a yummy Mongolian Breakfast, Potato fried cakes, with fried rice, made in an omelette. We then made our way to the next camp called Herdsmens gur camp,  We made our way through a little village, and went to the top of the hill, that had an old school tank, we had a very nice view of the little village. We made our way through heading to the next Ger camp.
We had a little detour in Sainshand , obviously not knowing where we were supposed to go , we were heading back into the same direction a couple of times. There was a barrier on the other side of the train track that we needed to cross, to be in the right direction, Murray said we could make it, so we gave it a try and only just made it, with only a few cm’s left of space to make it through.
Mum asked on the radio if anyone would like to drive the Landie for a change, Maurice decided he would like to have a go so I was the co-pilot, of this ride, he had a little trouble getting it started and spilled out some frantic words, he said” there are bloody huge obstacles alright!” hehe I was cry laughing. Our car was the party car of the 3, we had music playing loud, just jamming, it was good. Whilst the other cars are silent, not even a conversation spilt out. Thank god I wasn't in one of them!

We then made our way to a little Nadam Festival!, I had been looking forward to go to one of these, its great seeing the different traditions, and how they  celebrate, there were brows and arrows, meditating, horse races for all ages 5 and up. That was really cool, we also met a man with his son on his racing horse, it was a scary looking horse, it had big milky white eyes, looking like its gonna eat your soul!, we then headed off into the desert. Not knowing that the road was blocked off because of the horse races on, so we had to quickly drive up the track before they lap past us. It was so wick' we  were literally on the track where they were racing! So cool.

We also stopped at  a coal mine to take some pictures. It was huge and there were mountains and mountains of coal, like a whole other village!, about 100 metres from there we saw in the distance a few camels walking past! Some of their humps were retarted because they do not have enough water to keep them up and healthy.
Now its getting later in the day, there was an amazing sunset as we drove past these little lakes and drove over a few bridges, we then decided to drive through a little lake, so we could clean our cars after going through some tricky puddles full of mud, we went slow the first time, making sure its safe for others and then we had a second round. Coming out of the water Greg noticed as he went in he saw a number plate in the bottom of the river. He asked everyone if they all had them, we confirmed until I saw it was ours! Bloody hell! It skimmed off and obviously wasn’t bolted on correctly, so we spent some time looking. Thanks to Maurice who found it on the edge of the lake. As mum decided to go in and have a look, a mass scream came from her way, there was this ugly thing in the water almost looking like a sock,  but a lake creature. It was a spotted sack thing moving, so we vacated pretty quick! We named this Taniwha River

After a long day, we arrived at our second gur camp! This one was a bit more authentic with a little fire in the middle that the lady came and lit for us. Our beds were very cool,  I love them and I am going to buy one!
